Kensington Restaurant 11 Abingdon Road is only two years old but it feels as if it’s been there for ever. Owner Rebecca Mascarenhas is a hugely experienced restaurateur – she also owns Sonny’s in Barnes. She knows how to bring winning ingredients together. The food is relatively simple and absolutely gorgeous – organic smoked salmon with potato pancake and sour cream, tagliatelle with pied de mouton mushrooms, parsley and Parmesan, a chestnut, celeriac and pancetta soup, or potted shrimps to start, followed by dishes including fillet of wild halibut, partridge with polenta and Barolo sauce and tortellini with pumpkin and mascarpone, or slow-cooked belly of pork with crushed potato and roasted apple.. Service is bright and informed, decor is broadly monochrome and prices are fair, given the upscale locale. The menu at 11 Abingdon Road changes continually and every day a couple of dishes are added and a couple dropped, which allows the kitchen to offer whatever is in season. 11 Abingdon Road is a wonderful neighbourhood restaurant offering delicious food & fantastic wines in a friendly, upmarket setting. A real gem of a restaurant in our opinion.
